Silesar

In 1815 Maharao Raja Sawai Viney Singh (1815-57) ascended the Gadi of Alwar, a princely state cut away from the Jaipur kingdom by his predecessor Pratap Singh less than forty years before.

Historical consensus has it that the best of Viney Singh’s good deeds was the construction of a dam in 1844 some ten miles south-west of his capital, which formed a lovely reservoir about a mile in length and 400 years in width. The waters from this artificial lake were brought to Alwar by a masonry aqueduct, transfusing life into its barren, rocky landscape which was soon to bloom with luxurious gardens

Places To See
Siliserh Lake: The lake is picturesquely set amidst the forested slopes of Aravalli Hills. The lake attracts a lot of migratory birds adding colour and music to the scene. But for the hustle of the whispering woods and chirping birds, the place promises total calm and is ideal for a trek.

Siliserh Palace: Cradled in the hills and overlooking the lake, is a magnificent palace or the royal hunting lodge. This tastefully built old palace provides a breathtaking view of the water spread of the lake and its surrounding environment. The basement of this four storeyed palace leads to the water level of the lake. Now converted into a tourist hotel and managed by the Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation, this palace was built by Maharaja Vinay Singh for his queen, Shila. When paddle-boating, tourists enjoy a splendid view of the palace from the lake, while others view an equally spectacular sunrise and sunset from the terrace of the palace

Excursion
Jaisamand: Jaisamand Sanctuary is situated 50-km south of Udaipur, the picturesque 'City of Lakes', succulent valleys and hills. It is on the bank of Jaisamand Lake, the second largest artificial Lake in Asia.

Ajabgarh: Located 21 kms south of Thana Ghazi in Alwar district, this place is well known for a temple called Shri Raghunathji.

Tijara: The old historic town situated 48 kms north east of Alwar, has an imposing fort worth seeing.

Vijai Mandir Palace: Situated 10-km away from the city this palace is a splendid palace, built by Maharaja Jai Singh in 1918 AD. A picturesque lake overlooking the palace makes it a fascinating sight. A fabulous Sita Ram Temple in the palace attracts number of devotees, especially during Ramnavami. One needs prior permission form the Secretary to visit the palace.
