The capital of Shekhawati, it is of the largest towns of the district.The town was founded by the Kayamkhani nawabs in the mid 15th century A.D. and remained under their control until it was taken over by the Rajput ruler Sardul Singh in 1730 A.D.

The district town has some splendidly painted havelis. Easily accessible of these are those of Narssingh Das Tibriwal,Ishwar Das-Mohan Das Modi and the Khaitans.

The most interesting monument is the Khatri Mahal (the Wind Palace) dating back to around 1760 A.D. with elegant lines. The Sri Bihariji Temple is noted for its lovely murals. Other places worth visiting include-Badalgarh,Jorawargarh,Mertani Baori,Kamruddin Shah ki Dargah, Birdi Chand ka Kaun,Ajit Sagar and a Jain temple.

Places To See
The Khetri Mahal: A fine minor palace dating back to around 1760 AD. It has very elegant lines and is architecturally the most sophisticated building in the region, though not in the greatest condition.

The Modi and Tiberwala Havelis: Both in the main bazaar, these are covered with murals, and the latter one is particularly interesting. The town also has a number of 'chhatris' and wells. 

Bihari Ji Temple: It is a temple in Jhunjhunu, which is immensely popular for its antique paintings. Sri Biharji Temple is from a similar period and contains some fine murals, although these too have suffered over the years.

Shri Ranisatiji Mandir: Located in Jhunjhunu, it is one of the exemplary temples in India. It is one of the ancient pilgrimages in the country which is a historic, unprecedented masterpiece affording a panoramic view

The Sati Chowk
: A magnificent portrayal of the highest is situated in the Pradhan Mand with the imposing Shikhar. The entire edifice in white marble is enchanting. The main Temple of Shri Rani Satiji houses the main sanctum sanctoram. Qamruddin Shah ki Darghah, Mertani Baori, Laxminath Temple, Khetan Haveli, Ishwardas Mohandas Haveli, Badal Garh, Birdhi Chand Well and Ajeet Sagar are some of the places worth visiting. It is also famous for colourful wall paintings.

Excursion
Dundlod: Situated around 30 south-east of Mandawa, Dundlod has many havelis such as Jathia Haveli, and Tuganram Goenka Haveli. However, Dundlod is better known for its fort and palace. Another famous attraction here is the Satyanarayan Temple.

Nawalgarh: is famous for its fort that was built in AD 1737 by Thakur Nawal Singh. The Bala Qila has a kiosk with beautiful ceiling paintings while the Roop Nivas Palace has now been converted into a hotel. Like Mandawa, Nawalgarh too has a number of important havelis including Anandi Lal Poddar Haveli, Aath Haveli, Hem Raj Kulwal Haveli, Bhagton Ki Haveli, and Khedwal Bhavan.

Fatehpur: Established in 1451 as the capital of the Muslim Nawabs, Fatehpur was taken over by the Rajputs of the Shekhawati region in the 18th century. The main attractions here are the Mahavir Prasad Goenka Haveli, the Gauri Shankar Haveli, the Nand Lal Devra Haveli, the Harikrishnan Das Sarogi Haveli, and a 17th-century baoli or step-well

Mandawa: Mandawa is a small town in the heart of Shekhawati region. The place is known not only for its havelis but also for its Fort Palace. The structure of the palace reminds of the cultural and social importance of this region in the past
