Angling Mahaseer Tour

This is a rafting-cum-fishing stretch of the Mahakali/Sarda river which forms the boundary between India & Nepal. Put-in point would vary for pre-snowmelt season, March / April (Jauljibi /Jhulaghat) & post-snowmelt, May / June or Mid-Sept / Oct / Nov (Pancheswar). This programme is for Pancheswar-Boom. 3 nights will be added if putting in upstream.

Duration: 07 Nights / 08 Days
Destination: Delhi - Kathgodam - Pancheswar - Nepal - Delhi

Day 1 : Arrive Delhi. Meeting and assistance upon arrival. Transfer to hotel. Overnight in hotel.

Day 2 : Dep Delhi 5 AM. Drive 550 km to Pancheswar (12 hrs by car/14 hrs by coach). Alternative would be to take overnight train to Kathgodam and take coach on arrival early morning. This would cut road journey by about 5 hrs. Overnight in camp.

Day 3 : Fish for Mahaseer on plug & spoon at Pancheswar on the confluence of Sarju & Kali rivers. Record Mahaseer taken at this site is 80 lbs. Overnight in Camp.

Day 4 : Fish early morning and after breakfast start rafting. Overnight halt at Surnia river junction. A small stream coming in from Nepal which affords a lovely camp-site and fresh water.

Day 5 : Raft to the confluence of the Ladiya river and camp overnight at Chuka.

Day 6 : Negotiate Chuka rapids (grade 3-4 depending on water level). Latter half is a smooth sail through Purnagiri gorge. Put out at Boom. Lunch & overnight in Camp.

Day 7 : Breakfast & departure for Delhi, arriving late evening after 430 km drive. Check into hotel for overnight.

Day 8 : Depart Delhi. The rafting portions are mainly grade 2 with a couple of 3's. At low water level portage may be required at Chuka.

Due to rampant poaching of the river by locals & bombing/poisoning by vested commercial interests the Golden Mahaseer is a threatened species & no guarantee of catch can be made. However to hook on to a mighty Mahaseer is an experience no angler will ever forget. Reputed to be the fiercest freshwater fish in the world, Mahaseer has been recorded at 120 lbs caught on rod & reel. Besides the flora & fauna to be seen on this totally wild stretch of river would delight any naturalist.
