Trekking in India


The Indian Himalayas provide various options to trek Ladakh Himalaya to Gharwal and to the foot hill of Sikkim. Particularly Ladakh and Zanskar are some of the most spectacular and impressive mountain ranges in the world. Apart from villages and Monasteries, the colorful mountains, narrow gorges and some times wide open valleys towering by high peaks makes your trekking spectacular and memorable. Sikkim offers amazing view of the third highest summit in the world, Kanchenjunga (8586m). Gharwal Himalayas has it's own charm in trekking.

Physical Requirements for Trekking in India
You are not require to be physical tough for trekking in lower altitude in Sikkim and Gharwal and some soft trek in Ladakh. However, for high-altitude trekking, the physical requirements are almost the same as for mountaineering and climbing. People with high/low blood pressure or consult doctor for the high altitude trekking in Ladakh.

Best period for Trek in India
May to October is the best period for trekking in Ladakh, however, there are different for different trekking in Ladakh. You can check trekking in Ladakh for the best period for a particular trek. Sikkim can be visited between March to August. The best period to trek in Gharwal is either in the pre-monsoon period (mid-May to end of June), or the post-monsoon season (mid-September to mid-October).

Major Trekking Areas in India
There are mainly four trekking areas in India i.e. Ladakh, Himachal, Gharwal and Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh.

Trekking in Ladakh
Ladakh is situated in the east of Indian in the Jammu and Kashmir state. There are many trekking routes from 3 days to two months. The trekking routes can be divided into three main categories according to altitude. Trekking in Changthang is high altitude trek between 4200m to 5100m. While trekking in Zangskar is between 3200m to 5000m. Trekking around Leh and Nubra is lower altitude trek between 3600 to 5100m.

Trekking in Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh
The popular trekking in the eastern part of Indian Himalaya are in Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh.
